New roof for quake-damaged community center

With a new metal roof freshly installed, new windows are the last big task for rebuilding the community center destroyed by the massive August 2021 earthquake in Baradères, Haiti.
The estimated cost for replacing the center’s windows is $7,500, according to Sister Judith Prophète. She manages the community center and adjacent public health clinic.

The quake pancaked the community center’s concrete roof, cracked the walls and destroyed the contents.
It also severely damaged the adjacent health clinic. And it shattered the residence of Sr. Judith's small corps of Catholic sisters. They run the health clinic and operate the area’s only vocational school.
For many years the sisters have used the community center to train volunteer health workers, conduct well-baby clinics and carry out other public education programs.
UPLIFT Haiti had pledged to help rebuild the community center. Now, thanks to support from our donors and others, the center may soon fully reopen.
The metal roof will increase the building's resistance to future earthquakes.
The progress in rebuilding the community center is especially remarkable because Haiti has been in the grip of economic collapse, political paralysis and gang violence for over three years.
But as we have said before, our partners in Haiti do not quit, and neither do we, thanks to your generosity.
